I’m a big fan of toners. For me, just like exfoliation, skincare routine is not complete without this step. What are the benefits of using facial toners?
When I was a teenager, I remember using Eskinol to clean my face every night. It served as my way of clearing away dirt that has not been removed by washing. And because I have oily acne-prone skin, It helped me a lot in controlling my pimples. I was basically a walking pimple back then. I even remember using an astringent and endured its painful effects on my face. (the struggle was real ).
Today I still have oily skin and I still get pimples once in a while but my skin tends to get drier using a cleanser with alcohol. Until I discovered and realized the benefits of using facial toners.
A toner is a skincare that is used after cleansing. It usually has a consistency like water. Its purpose is to remove residue that a cleanser didn’t take off, it preps the skin for the next products that you’re gonna apply next.
When we are using makeup every day (i wear my cushion foundation and sunscreen every day), It’s advisable to double cleanse by using an oil-based cleanser before washing your face with a foam cleanser to ensure that you remove all the make up off your face. But when oil cleansers are not available, cleaning your face using a cotton soak with toner is an effective way to thoroughly clean your face.
Pimples, blackheads and whiteheads happen when our pores get clogged by oil, dead skin cells, makeup residue, dirt and bacteria.
How I’m Using My Toners
I like using a toner to make sure my face is clean. I use a cotton ball or pad and wipe it all over my face to make sure there is no dirt left.
There are a lot of toners out there but I prefer these two Korean toners, Ra & Gowoori Toners (it comes in two variants collagen and whitening) and SOMEBYMI toner(A little bit pricey than Ra & Gowoori). They work great on my skin. I’m not having breakouts or whatsoever. I use a cotton ball when I’m using Ra & Gowoori while I just tap SOMEBYMI on my face so that my skin absorb the toner.
Ra & Gowoori RealKill 9.9 Whitening Toner is a non sticky, fast absorbing, alcohol free toner that lightens dark pigmentation and hydrates the skin.
It has a mild scent and a thicker consistency, a bit similar to a serum. This toner is good for sensitive skin.
I double tone with Somebymi Miracle Toner.
This toner has a more runny consistency. It has a nice minty smell. This toner brightens skin ,minimizes the appearance of pores, exfoliates and help prevents pimples. I noticed improvements on my skin after two weeks of using it.
Korean Toners Are the Best Toners for me
What I love about Korean toners is that many of them are alcohol-free. It means they are non-drying and non -irritating. Most of the benefits they give are thoroughly cleansing, moisturizing and hydrating the skin.
These toners even targets specific skin concerns like acne, minimize the appearance of pores, improves texture, and brightens the complexion .
Some of the ingredients you’ll find in toners are Glycerin, sodium Hyaluronate, Hyaluronic acid, Centella asiatica,Ceramides, andAHAs and BHAs.
